valuation aspects - scope in hr
Capital investment is inevitable to spur growth and maintain momentum. A revenue sharing model that can channel and measure internal capital investment in existing assets is worth analysis. To start we need to demarcate employee profile in terms of existing operating personnel and external talent that are being targeted. The latter clearly forms a part of capital investment for activating a vacancy. However when it comes to existing employees the differentiation is not easy and is a bit complex. In the sense, investments on existing employees are two fold : for operational aspects as well as for capital value enhancement. Many organisation miss out on latter and spend more efforts on former. The belief is that will pay off for value enhancement fully. Typical wage salary administration tools, systems and policy administration therefore takes more time and attention of hr guys. Even many of the recruitment, orientation , benefits administration, employee relations and even separation packages are also tailored around the operational part. What then are the areas that one can focus on capital side ? for eg : over a period, employees often create talent pools with high potential. Revaluation of such talent pools periodically and make investments in it to sustain its growth is essential. Such revaluations need to be made against replacements costs at market value. This can makes HR capital value updated and aligned to similarly updated valuations of other resources. The revenue for this can easily be generated from depreciation provision. There are conventional benefits too like improved bench strength for succession planning. But the most important part is that investments due to people resources will not get diverted or utilized in other areas resulting in a drain of hr capital value over the years. It is next to impossible to measure or replace such capital over long stretches of time gap if this is not done periodically. Often organizations missing out this important step can be seen frequently making recruitment trips even when there is hardly any capital investment going on on new businesses.
